Wolverhampton to Manchester Airport by Taxi
Getting from Wolverhampton to Manchester Airport by taxi. The route, the timings, the two-terminal layout, and when to book a pickup for a morning flight.

Manchester is the airport Wolverhampton goes to when Birmingham does not have the route. Long haul, the Emirates and KLM hubs, most of the North-bound international network: if the flight you want is not leaving from BHX, there is a good chance it is leaving from MAN.
It is also the longer run of the two, and that changes how you plan it. This guide covers the route, the timings, the terminal layout as it stands now, and when to get the pickup booked.
The route and the drive
Manchester Airport is 95 miles from Wolverhampton, and the drive is around 1 hour 50 minutes. The route is the M6 north, then the M56 across to the airport.
Compare that with Birmingham Airport, which is a short run on the other side of the city, and the difference in planning is the whole point. Birmingham you can treat as a local journey. Manchester is close to two hours before anything goes wrong, and the M6 is the stretch of motorway most likely to make something go wrong.
That is not a reason to avoid it. It is a reason to build the delay into the booking rather than into the morning.
Manchester is now a two-terminal airport
This is the part that catches people out, including people who have flown from Manchester for years.
Terminal 1 has closed permanently after more than 60 years. Manchester now runs as a two-terminal airport. Terminal 2 has doubled in size following a £1.3 billion investment and handles more than 75% of all passengers. Terminal 3 is now dedicated to Ryanair.
So the short version is: Ryanair goes to Terminal 3, and almost everything else goes to Terminal 2. If you have an old booking confirmation, an old parking reference or simply an old habit that says Terminal 1, it is out of date.
Check the terminal on your booking before the car arrives rather than at the drop-off. At an airport this size, going to the wrong terminal is not a two-minute correction.
When to book the pickup
For an international departure we time the pickup for three hours before the flight leaves. Add the 1 hour 50 minute drive to that and the arithmetic gets early quickly, which is exactly why it is worth doing the night before rather than in your head at 4am.
- Work backwards from the flight, not forwards from when you want to get up. Three hours before departure at the terminal, plus close to two hours of driving, plus whatever margin you want on the M6
- Early morning departures mean a pickup in the small hours. Our base on Raynor Road is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so a 3am booking is dispatched exactly like a 3pm one
- Book ahead for the outbound run. Same-day always works, but a pre-booked job is the one that is already allocated when your alarm goes off
- Give the office your flight number and terminal when you book
- For the return, remember that landing time is not the same as ready-to-leave time. Bags and passport control at Manchester can add a fair while to a long-haul arrival
Fares are metered and quoted in the app before you confirm, so you see the price for the journey before the car is booked. The same applies to the return leg.
Why people take a taxi rather than drive
The honest answer is usually parking and the two ends of the trip rather than the drive itself.
Driving yourself means parking a car at a major airport for the length of the holiday, then getting back to it after a long-haul landing when nobody in the family is at their best. The train means getting to Wolverhampton station, changing, and then handling cases on and off at both ends. Neither is impossible. Both have more moving parts than a car from the door.
A taxi is door to terminal with the cases in the boot, and on the return it is the same in reverse at a point in the trip when that is worth a lot. For a group travelling together it is often the straightforward option, although it is worth saying plainly that we run saloons, estates and executive cars rather than multi-seaters, so a large group needs more than one car.
If you are weighing up which airport to fly from at all, the airport transfers page lists what we run to, with the distances and drive times for each, including East Midlands at 65 miles and Liverpool John Lennon at 85.
Booking the car
Book through the Wednesfield Cars app or call the office on 01902 305 333. Give the pickup address, the flight number, the terminal and the departure time, and the desk will work the pickup back from there.
For the return, give the flight number again. A flight that lands late is not a problem anyone needs to solve from the baggage hall at Manchester at midnight.
